Things We Like: Brushing Your Teeth in 10 Seconds

Did you know that on average we spend 108 days in our lifetimes just brushing our teeth. A hundred and eight days… crazy.

Today I stumbled across a very interesting, if slightly weird, campaign on Kickstarter. The campaign is (very successfully I might add) raising money to produce Amabrush, a toothbrush that claims to be able to clean all of your teeth at once getting you some of those 108 days back.

Does this sound too good to be true? I’d say the jury is still out on that one until the product starts arriving in people’s homes this December.

So what does this contraption look like? In a word, strange. But I guess that might be me comparing it with my pre-conceived notions of what a toothbrush should look like, a stick with bristles on the end.

To use the Amabrush you put in your mouth and bite down slightly, sort of like a when you’re wearing a protective gum guard. Then the battery vibration of the bristles does the rest. It comes with special toothpaste capsules which snap on magnetically along with the motor attachment. I’m guessing this means you might not be able to use your favourite brand of toothpaste with it which might be a dealbreaker for some. For others however the time saved might make it worth it.

This whole-mouth brush starts at 79 euros, similar in price to mid market electric toothbrushes we currently see on shelves. Not outrageous but not cheap either, especially when considering it is an entirely new concept.

My initial reaction to seeing this campaign was that it seemed like quite a strange idea, but then looking at the sheer number of backers they’ve attracted, and thinking more about how much time it could potentially save (we can all agree at least that brushing your teeth is boring!) I’m starting to come around to  the idea.

So, my question to you is this… would you use a toothbrush like this or would you find it just too weird? Have a watch of their video below to help you decide…
